Frequently asked questions
What are 4 early warning signs of melanoma?
Melanoma can sometimes appear as being different to other lesions on the body and can often show one of the ABCDE changes of melanoma.
Asymmetry – the two halves of the lesion do not match in size if you draw a line through the middle
Border – the edges of the lesion appear notched, irregular, and uneven
Colour- the lesion has multiple colours, including shades of black, brown, tan, blue, red, or white
Diameter – the lesion is larger than a pencil eraser which is approximately 6mm
Evolving – the lesion has changed in size, shape, colour or shows any new trait such as bleeding, itching, or crusting
Early melanoma may show no symptoms at all, which is why regular professional skin checks are so important.
Where can I find a skin cancer clinic in Albury-Wodonga?

Who is the best doctor for skin cancer?
Doctors with advanced training in skin cancer medicine perform comprehensive skin checks in dedicated facilities that are fully equipped to diagnose, biopsy and treat all skin cancers using the latest tools and technologies for earliest diagnosis. They have advanced qualifications and dedicate their practise full-time to skin cancer management.
What happens if you don't treat skin cancer?
If left untreated, melanoma can spread throughout the body. Even if it doesn't spread, skin cancer can get bigger and cause significant damage to surrounding tissue, leading to disfigurement and scarring. That's why early skin cancer detection through regular skin checks is so important.
Can skin cancer be cured?
Skin cancer may be successfully treated and cured if detected early enough. Most early skin cancers can be removed with minimal harm to the patient with a simple surgical excisional procedure. Depending on the type, size and location of the cancer sometimes it may require complex surgery, most of which can be done at the primary health care level by a competent doctor. Rarely, some rapidly growing and aggressive skin cancers like invasive melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma may require some other treatment like radiation therapy or specialised medication, which is why skin cancer checks are so important!
