Acne scars

Striae / stretch marks

How does skin needling work?
Softly penetrating the surface layer of your skin helps to induce a natural healing effect that leaves skin feeling and looking softer, smoother and healthier. Skin needling achieves this by lightly penetrating the skin with tiny needles in a vibrating manner, delivering over 1,000 holes per second into the skin, which promotes collagen renewal while stimulating the skin to regenerate itself. This is also why it's known as collagen induction therapy!
The procedure takes around 30 minutes and is painless.

Skin needling is a minimally invasive treatment. All Dermapen cartridges utilise disposable needle tips, so there is no risk of cross contamination or infection. Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed with an antiseptic prior to the procedure. Skin needling is suitable for almost all skin types and is non-ablative.
Your doctor/nurse will apply topical anesthetic cream to the treatment area at least 45 minutes prior to the procedure. Your skin will be cleansed with an antiseptic solution before a topical hyaluronic acid gel is applied to the treatment area, and then the Dermapen is passed over three times.
Your doctor/nurse may advise antiviral or antibiotic prophylaxis if you are prone to cold sores, staph infections, or have any associated medical conditions.
Each session takes about 30 minutes. We give our patients the option to recover under our Heallite LED device, which hastens recovery and improves skin collagen.
To ensure effective treatment, it is desirable that there will be fine pin point bleeding (similar to a very superficial graze) to the area treated with the Dermapen. Usually the skin will be pink for 24-48 hours, and feel warmer and tighter than usual. Bruising is rare but there may be minor swelling. We advise a light dressing for the immediate post-treatment period.
After skin needling treatment, your body will naturally start to regenerate and repair the skin, working below the surface. This means new collagen and elastin is formed, blood supply is enhanced, and new skin cells are regenerated. It usually takes up to six weeks before any visible signs of repair are seen, and this will continue over the ensuing months.
The Dermapen treatment is not suitable for patients with an untreated skin cancer on the treatment area, patients allergic to topical local anaesthetics, or patients on high dose corticosteroids

How can I optimise my results from skin needling?
You can combine skin needling with other anti-ageing treatments for outstanding results. For example, treatments such as vampire facial/liquid gold facelift therapy, serums and medi-aesthetic peels can be optimised when skin needling has been performed prior to treatment, as the skin needling helps to distribute the plasma or topical treatments beneath the top layer of your skin. Additionally, skin needling can help enhance results after volume replacement and muscle relaxant treatments, as it soothes and regenerates the skin.
Is skin needling safe for older skin?
Yes, skin needling is safe and effective in skin of all ages. It can be a good idea to start skin needling treatments in your 20s or 30s, when you can enjoy the best boost in collagen production.
What is the skin needling device?
Skin needling utilises a medical device which perforates the skin using multiple sterile needles which vertically pierce the top layer of skin in a vibrating manner. As the device glides over the area being treated, thousands of tiny punctures are created on the skin’s surface, opening up pores and allowing for better absorption of topical treatments.
What are the side effects of skin needling?
To ensure effective treatment, it is desirable that there will be fine pin point bleeding (similar to a very superficial graze) to the area treated with skin needling.

When will I see results from skin needling?
After skin needling treatment, your body will naturally start to regenerate and repair the skin, working below the surface. This means new collagen and elastin is formed, blood supply is enhanced, and new skin cells are regenerated. It usually takes up to six weeks before any visible signs of repair are seen, and this will continue over the following months.
Is skin needling better than muscle relaxants?
Skin needling and muscle relaxants have very different effects, and both treatments target different concerns in different ways. Skin needling is a non-invasive treatment that stimulates collagen renewal on the skin's surface, while muscle relaxants or volume replacement administers neurotoxin under the skin to plump out wrinkles or stabilise muscle movement. You should speak to your doctor or dermal clinician about which treatment is right for you! Skin needling is ideal for refreshing your skin.
How long do skin needling results last?
The benefits of skin needling last about three to five months, depending on how well you maintain your skin health between treatments and the condition of your skin.
Does skin needling make wrinkles worse?
No, skin needling is beneficial for refining fine lines and wrinkles and should not make your wrinkles worse.
Is there any downtime after skin needling?
Usually there isn’t any downtime with this treatment - only some redness that should be gone within a day.
